Freedom begins where control ends.

Inevitability

This series explores inevitability — both emotional and mathematical.

I begin by deconstructing an Indian saree, a garment deeply tied to ideas of femininity, tradition, and expectation. Instead of wearing it, I dismantle it. The deconstruction of the saree gives it an unusual role, as it is used to color numbers on an (𝑎,𝑏)-lattice.

The system follows a constraint: it must avoid monochromatic solutions to ax+by = (a+b)z.

No triple satisfying this equation can share the same state (filled with deconstructed saree or not).

At first, each decision feels like defiance. But as the system grows, resistance begins to fail. No matter how carefully the coloring is constructed, certain structures become unavoidable. And eventually, a single cell emerges for which no decision can avoid a monochromatic solution. In that moment, the illusion of control collapses.

Freedom begins where control ends — when you’ve done enough, and what follows is “inevitable”.
